When are they going to play the new office episodes again? Only after the strike is over?

They have been playing re-runs and I just want some new episodes... have they stopped completely until the writer's strike is over?

The previous answerer is entirely incorrect. They do not write full seasons at a time. At the time of the writers strike most television shows had roughly 8-12 episodes already completed. Due to the strike, no further production can continue.

It is the writers who create the characters and the jokes that you love. Until they are fairly compensated for the new outlets of media that exist there will be no new episodes.

And just so you understand how it works, I'll break it down for you. For example, say you write a movie. Initially, the studio will buy the script from you in a lump sum. As part of that contractual agreement, you the writer are also entitled to receive 4 cents in royalties every time the movie gets rented on DVD. But all the new ways to view movies, over the internet, podcast, etc. were not included in the contract because those forms of media didn't exist at the time. So now, when someone watches the movie you wrote on streaming video online, the writer receives nothing.

You may say, "Well, it's just 4 cents". But say that now 100,000 people choose to download the movie instead of renting it from a store. That's $4000 dollars that you should be entitled to that you aren't getting.

This strike is determining the very future of entertainment as we know it. The writers are getting screwed by the studios. The studios have enough money to wait the strike out, however. They are assuming that the writers will eventually cave in because they will all be broke.

Nothing comes out of Hollywood that didn't first come out of the mind of a writer. Support the writers and be patient.

The bottom line is that all new episodes of scripted television shows will be shown in the next week or two. No new episodes have been written or filmed. The guy above me doesn't know what he's talking about.

The episodes of the Office were written and recorded long before the strike started as they write one season at a time. They are holding off on them so that they can continue to draw your viewing later into the season than if they simply ran them like normal.

EDIT:
As for David's comments, why then are there new episodes of Earl, 30 Rock, and Scrubs? What's that? No answer? I thought not.

They have the new episodes of the Office but in order to drag the length of the season out they will run one show in reruns midway through the season so that they can later run the rest of the shows in reruns while running the first show's new episodes which causes you to watch longer. It's a typical broadcasting technique to artificially lengthen the season (i.e. more prime time advertising slots=more advertising revenues).

The writers' strike will not effect pre-written shows until next season since they write a large bank of shows up front and then edit them later. Daily shows will suffer as they need up to the minute writing in order to stay relevant.

Also, as for supporting the writers, I think that the $600-900K a season that they get now is more than enough. If they were actually doing something productive I would be more inclined to support them but as it sits I could care less if the industry simply fired them all and got new talent.
