Absolutely! It's why I left.

The few episodes I've seen have concentrated on some rather unsavoury characters (Ian McShanes Role in particular). Those sort of people can be just as foul mouthed now in real life, so I don't doubt that some were like it in the old west.

100 years from now people will think the same about us.

No. It wasn't perfect, but not as bad as shown on Deadwood. Remember, Deadwood is being aimed at a 2007 audience, not in 1870 as set...and we just have to have lots of curse woods in our vocabulary today don't we!

I am a major western film fan...I grew up on Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, etc., and while I know the West wasn't as peachy clean as in their movies, it sure wasn't Deadwood. And, it's also the reason that I just can't stand Deadwood...I just don't want to watch anything that every other word is F-this, F-that...and I'm not Mr. Clean Mouth myself...but enough is enough.

If you want a feel for how people actually talked at that time, then find a selection of books written at the time. And, while we can say that the censors wouldn't allow a lot of what we would say today to be printed, it still wasn't the same amount as today.

No way. I do not know or understand why that bad language was used, but I do not hear that kind of talk in other western movies.
