Whats with that Hollow that takes over Ichigo sometimes??

I am only on episode 83, so no spoilers please. What is it? Does it just take over him when he is close to dying?

Back around episode 20, when Ichigo was training with Urahara, remember the test where Ichigo was thrown into the pit with his hands bound and soul chain cut? And how his hollow mask formed before his hollow body, which was noted as being unusual? That was Ichigo's hollow form being created. But Ichigo was able to fight him off.

Then in the Kenpachi fight (about episode 38), Zangetsu tests Ichigo with a fight against the hollow Ichigo. After that test, Zangestu turned to the hollow and asks something like "Are you mad at me for helping him?". The answer went something like "No. Not at all. Train him well, for someday all his power shall be mine!"

In some ways, they've set it up almost like Zangetsu is the angel and hollow Ichigo is the devil in Ichigo's cartoon conscience.

The hollow is basically Ichigo's evil side trying to get out and take control. But at the same time, Hollow Ichigo dies if Ichigo dies, so there is still some interest in Ichigo's survival. And Ichigo starts to learn to harness Hollow Ichigo's power for brief periods of time. In this respect, it's quite similar to the Nine-Tail Fox lending it's power to Naruto.

As far as comparing it to other powerups, Shikai and Bankai are like Super Saiyan levels, while Hollow Ichigo is more of a fusion.

no its trying to take over completely, this has been resolved by this point in the manga

well....it is his inner hollow. it takes over him when hes close to dying cuz thats when hes the weakest. it is actually trying to take over all of him.

it was another power inside Ichigo,its just like zengetsu.but the hollow is the evil side....yes, when ichigo dying,the hollow
will take over his body,but ,when he practicing the power with Hiyori,Ichigo can use easily the power.
