Racism in computer animated movies?

Racism in computer animation movies. Is it creeping in?

Like the hero has to have blue eyes.

Recently the main "good" character in cartoon /animation movies has blue eyes:

Toy Story - Buzz Lightyear

Robots (Rodney Copperbottom)

Cars - (Lightning McQueen)

Transformers (Optimus Prime)

The Bee Movie (Barry Bee Benson)

Most people with blue eyes are white.

Is this a way of telling the audience that the hero (even if it is a car or an insect) is white???

Shouldn't kids from all nationalities be able to relate to the hero? Brown eyes are found in all nationalities so why not choose it?
Racism seems to be sneaking in
Hitler would be proud

ok: see links to pics here

It's not only blue eyes, unfortunately! It's blonde hair and beauty too. Seen the Barbie prinsess computer animated movies. What should little girls think, even if they are white but unfortunately not blond and beautiful?!

Ah, I don't think it's racism, I think lots of people just like blue eyes.

What the hell are you talking about?!?!?!?!?!?!

the pages don't exist!!!! but i don't think it's racism just because there are the best movies

I'm white with brown eyes. Should I start boo-hooing over cartoon talking insects having different colored eyes than me?

Kids don't care about the color of their eyes or skin, so I don't think it's a serious issue.

I think the animation industry should have the right to choose what ever aspects/features/looks for their character that they like.

yea, the hero normally always has blue eyes but don't take it personal...any1 who made those vids didn't try on purpose to be racist..blue eyes just stand out so the heros have them

I can't believe somebody actually took the time to notice the eye color of cartoon characters and actually see in this a conspiracy to commit racism. Hitler would be proud of YOU for spending your time sitting around looking for something to be agrieved of whether it actually exists or not.
The major contributor to continued racism is people who scream racism every few minutes whether justified or not.
Why don't you relax and take up model airplanes for a hobby instead of searching for non-existant monsters in other people's closets?

I don't think that's racism at all.

When a company would go out of its way to produce a movie with a hero that is absolutely noted to be black, and they made him black simply for the reasons of being "diverse," THAT would be racism.

So for that matter, if they made a movie, and the hero had brown eyes, and they did it just for you, so it would soothe your need for "diversity," you would be helping to create the racism that you are trying to eliminate.

Please don't be ignorant of the fact that these shows were created by Caucasian people, among whom blue eyes are probably considered to be very beautiful.

Just as Japanese computer animators (e.g., animators of Final Fantasy: Advent Children) give their characters obviously Japanese/ Chinese features, white animators will give their characters caucasian features!
And African American animators also give their characters African features!

People will naturally make their characters resemble them. That's just the way we humans are!

From a graphic design standpoint, blue eyes are simply easier to see and give more definition to an eye, so a blue eye ends up looking more like a 'real' eye. Darker eye colors don't have as much contrast, so they don't look as expressive on a character.

As for that list of characters, only one of them is human. The others are animals or machines, so they don't have a race. This isn't some insidious plot on the part of the motion picture industry to purport racism, it's called a coincidence

You also seem to conveniently ignore a lot of characters in CGI movies with non-blue eyes.

For example:
Dory from Finding Nemo has brown eyes: http://www.psxextreme.com/wallpapers/psp...

Remy from Ratatouille has...you guessed it, brown eyes:
http://blogs.indiewire.com/twhalliii/rat...

There are probably more but I suppose I've proven my point.

If you pick me as the best answer then i will agree with you. =p

This is true, but I don't think that it is malicious (so I wouldn't go as far as to compare this to Hitler's agenda). I think it is cultural. Most animators are white (most of hollywood - in front of the camera and behind the camera are white, for that matter) so they make movies that reflect their culture (which is why a lot of them have a hard time making movies that reflect other people's cultures. When was the last time you saw a movie featuring asian people where it wasn't martial arts based - for example). But they are not alone. People make movies based on their culture. In white american culture, the "visual" shorthand for good, pure, hero is blonde hair and blue eyes. It is used to differentiate quickly so that they can go ahead and tell the story. Again, I don't think there is anything sinister behind it - it is pretty unconscious.

If you've ever watched movies made by black people, where the casting is by black people, have you ever noticed that the people look different? We have a different aesthetic for who looks good and who doesn't (i.e. the woman actually has curves and is not considered fat - for example). I'm sure it is the same for other cultures as well. Different cultures have different aesthetics.

Basically, we need to make our own animations and our own movies. And we need to continue to work within Hollywood to expand the view of who can be a hero - because it impacts our country and the world (because american movies are watched everywhere). The software to create movies and animations is fairly cheap and available and there are many talented artists, actors, and directors. The distribution would be a problem - but with the internet and it is possible to get alternate visions out there.
