What do you think about Anime?

I personally don't like it, my brother went to Japan, and a lot of it is extremely obscene and inappropriate, and even in the normal cartoons, the girls always have huge breasts and they're always about to pop out. At my school, the kids that watch and enjoy Anime are considered "nerds" or "geeks". I don't label them, but does anyone here enjoy Anime? What do you like about it?

I agree, some have great story-lines... but it IS animated.. a cartoon, per say? I see lots of older people still watching these, and many are still oriented in theme toward childish things/ have some childish content. Thoughts?

PS. You must admit, girls in some cartoons have amazingly huge breasts.

I like anime. I don't get why you don't. I think their funny a lot of times. I also like to read the mangas for them.

Not all animes are like the ones you explained and just because people watch anime dosn't mean they are nerds or geeks!

I personally think that anime is better than American cartoons!
Some are very dramatic & romantic!
There are a lot of good storylines in anime and they have beautiful artwork!

i don't see a point in it, just another cartoon way to hook people to another culture thing....i agree the chickas always look....easy

i think some anime are really good, like miyazaki's masterpieces, and then some can be horribly corny.
there are soooo many different genres, the same way there are different genres of music. there is always one out there you can enjoy. so a person wouldnt say they hate music altogether, they would say they dislike rap, or rock, does that make any sense? =P probably not...sorry lol...but i know that anime gets a bad rap because of the weird fans. there are some normal ones, please trust me, i'm one of them!

i like some anime because they deal with everyday problems and human emotions/relationships while sometime tying in supernatural twists and adventure into the mix.
some anime just have normal plots too


and just because it's animated is no reason to dislike it. i notice that since it is animated it tends to turn people off before they even give it a shot, dunno why. it's just an artform, another way of making a show or movie. i thik the word cartoon pretains more to slap stick humor, funny light hearted shows aimed towards children. most anime is rated for people 18 and up, and not just because of big boobies (haha, which isnt always true), and deal with themes that would go over a child's head.
and not all cartoons are always aimed for kids, just look at the comedy central line up =P

I do enjoy anime because its not like American cartoons. Most of the cartoons in America are for little kids. Anime can be for kids and adults. Anime also has many different subjects like demons, giant fighting robots, and other fictional topics poeple in America wouldn't even consider. The characters are also well drawn and the animation is astounding. (I also think some of the anime guys are cute!)

Yeah, I like anime, it's clever and far more interesting than normal cartoons and t.v. shows...

Some of it is good, a lot of it is bad, and most of the people who like it are annoying. But I still consider myself an anime fan.

i like it..Not all anime have girls with huge chests but most of them have pretty good storylines...

i love anime, i started watching when i was 5 or 7 years old(although i almost can't remember it(animes like dragon ball, yuyu hakusho, doraemon, mojacko, and flame of recca) i don't see any wrong with it, it's the viewers choice if he/she wants to watch appropriate or inappropriate animes. i don't like those hentai, and ecchi anime too, but if they're good i just skip the gross parts. i enjoy anime coz it's fun imagine living in fantasy, fighting and having adventures(as a good guy^^) i also like comedy, unlike sometimes what you watch on t.v. are sometimes exaggerated. the romance, makes me wonder about my crush..(wahahaha why am i saying this^^) but you get my point right?

Well, I personally prefer anime over American cartoons. Yeah some anime are inappropiate, but not all...that's why their RATED. American cartoons don't cover all genres like Japanese anime does. To me anime covers thing that we KNOW goes on in the world which I'm refering to inappropiate things like (yoai, hentai, yuri etc.) I could never, EVER watch the last two, but their story lines and plots are WAY more interesting than American cartoons but at times can be confusing and not make sense at all. Most of their artwork is better looking too which isn't as important as the storyline in my opinion. I think a lot of people think that cartoons are more for kids than adults anyway so....I can kind of understand why you would have a negative view on anime if those are the only ones your seeing.

That is because there are soooooo many different anime that suit anyones taste, with interesting and unique plots! Anime is not only for children but for grown-ups as well!

I like the fact that the way things are disigned and of course the storyline. I however don't like the fact that the amarican companies are dubbing them. I mean come on. They weren't ment for little kids. I like the sub version better.

I think its pretty interesting for the most part, what I hate is peoples idolization and worship of it, stating that they wish they were japanese or they are moving to Japan. thinking itll be just like the animes.

The Japanese dont like americans to much, and are not as friendly and as open minded as most people think.

okay this is a more adult perspective on it( i'm 27) . I've watched anime most of my life. started with voltron, robotech ect. as a kid. I've been watching it consciously for around 13 or so years. i agree some series are not appropriate for all ages but that goes for tv, movies, music and everything else. at school kids are teased for multiple reasons i.e. hair, height, interests, parents income, acne, clothes, shoes, athleticism ect. that can't be helped. my son is actually quite popular and watches alot of anime; of couse we don't let him watch everything but that goes for movies too. yes alot of the girl are depicted with big breasts

anime is very creative. the stories are, in alot of the better animes, not aimed toward children but young adults who can comprehend it. they are funny, touching, thought provoking, romantic, action packed or very sad. it's no different from a good movie or tv show it just looks different. i challenge you to watch to watch one of these and see what you think after that. try: ghost in the shell; X movie or series;ninja scroll; samurai x ovas1&2. see what you think. you may change your mind or you may not but you may gain a greater understanding of why people like anime and the the different types that are out there
