Sugarland's song "Stay"?

My dad asked me if she was supposed to be the girlfriend or the wife

we came to the conclusion that she was the girlfriend...but I can't see Jenn singing a song where she would be in the wrong morally...she definitely isn't my favorite vocally but I don't think she is the type of person who would sing about being in an adultered relationship

I don't know maybe it's just Nashville...but imput would be great

I like listening to Sugarland but I hate the lyrics/message of "Stay." To the best of my understanding it's about a woman who has been trying to get a cheating man to stay with her. She is finally wising up and getting ready to end it. I can't abide cheaters and don't want to hear songs romanticizing adultery. Yep, that's a nasty subject for her to be singing so emotionally about. Sugarland had better watch out or they are going to loose this fan. The next time that song comes on the radio I'm going to change the station immediately.

Now, let's listen to Carrie Underwood sing "Before He Cheats." Way to go girl!

She's the Girlfriend, (and it is just a song)

My mom and I have also been over this, but we came up with the conclusion the she (Jennifer) was the girl on the side. I don't think it was about morally wrong as much as her finally saying that she can stand on her own without him.

Another reason I love that song. It is seen differently by all types of people.

I heard an interview with her, she is not the narrarator of the song, the emotion she puts into it comes from other things in her life she uses for insipration, but she took it as though she was singing from the other womans point of view.

I've thought about this as well.

I think she was the girlfriend but the guy was cheating on her. She was trying to say that she would love for him to stay but if he can't... she can't go on hoping for him to change his mind.

She is the mistress
At the end she says Im up off my knees Im so tired of being lonely you cant give me what I need so why dont you stay the next time she begs you not to go stay.... in her bed ... like she deosent want him back. Get it?

the song is about her and she wants this guy who is having an affair with her to stay b/c his wife cant give him what she needs......then by the last verse she has decided to not care anymore so she says why dont you staay YOU cant give me waht i need...
hope i could help--laura--

She is singing the part of the mistress, but remember it is just a song.

She is the girlfriend,,,although i watched where she stated, the songs lyrics brought true heart felt feelings come out, which made it so easy to film the video with true reactions...With acting like that,,she should maybe consider acting as a profession as well,,what you think???did a great job..

She is a girlfriend and the other women is the wife...thats what i'm thinking

I heard Kristen Busch (the other half of Sugarland) talk about this, and it is definitely the mistress singing, finally telling him to stay with his wife cause she's done.

Yes in the song she is the other woman. I don't really care for it. It doesn't send out a very positive message.
