Which country singers from the last 20 years do you think will make it into the hall of fame someday?

My predictions are Garth Brooks, Reba, and Alan Jackson.

To Texas Cookie, George Strait made it into the hall of fame last year. :)

Not my most original answer but: I agree 100% with you:

Garth, Reba, and Alan are all "shoe ins," it's just a matter of time. Clint Black may qualify as well - that's a tough call as he hasn't ever quite reached the zenith that the "Big 3" have.

Although just outside the 20-year factor, I think you can add Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Martina to that list as well.

Am betting that "dark horse" Ray Benson, band leader of "Asleep at the Wheel" for nearly 35 years will get in too one of these days. He almost single-handedly re-introduced an entire generation to Bob Wills and the entire Western Swing sound.

With all due respect, and despite obvious vocal ability and a large fan base..I don't see Rascal flatts as candidates. They're just too "fringe" for the CMA to accept.

I hope that Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban make it to the hall of fame one day. I also agree with all those who have been mentioned previously.

Seriously, honestly, truthfully, other than the two you mentioned (Reba goes back to the mid-70s): NONE OF THEM. And, I'm not being a "traditional country prude" on this. Modern country music is almost like "Tiger Beat" magazine from the 70s: someone arrives on the scene, gets extremely popular, has two or three years of big hits, then, to quote the old Archie Campbell/Gordie Tapp routine from "Hee-Haw," "pfft! they were gone." I remember seeing Billy Dean at the Opry in 1992, and you would've sworn the Beatles were in town (in fact, I was at the Opry in '74 the night Paul McCartney was there, and I didn't hear that loud a scream when Roy Acuff introduced him!). Where's he today? Mark Collie? Doug Supernaw? Lionel Cartwright? These are people who had #1 hits 15 years ago. Compare that to people like Eddy Arnold, who won CMA's "Entertainer of the Year" the year after he was inducted into the Hall of Fame!

The word "legend" isn't going to be used (well, not CORRECTLY) in country music anymore. Sadly, that's because of the fact that country music fans have always had the reputation for being the most loyal fans in music -- but those loyal fans aren't being sought out and catered to by the industry today. "The industry" doesn't care if singer "X" has a fan on earth in five years, just as long as he/she makes a lot of money NOW. And, sadly, a lot of artists seem to have that same mentality. Meanwhile, people still line up to see "old-timers." There's a bond between older country stars and their fans that is indescribable. Modern country singers don't want that "longevity," they want the money -- and they want it NOW.
