Or do you just have to be persuing a music career?

Pretty much what Okie said. You can even pay for your own session and get a master copy of what you laid down and then have it mass produced from anywhere starting at 100 copies and up. Then theoretically since you recorded the master you can be called a Nashville recording artist. Whether the song is any good or not depends. Sometimes it might only be for use as a stocking stuffer for family members at Christmas

you have to wear a hat, play guitar, wear cowboy boots, and sing with an affectation. once you've achieved this, you can be considered someone from nashville.

Mainly you have to sign with a Nashville record lable to be considered as a Nashville recording artist.

Here's what ya gotta do-get yourself a great agent who can make you look good no matter what. Even if you can't sing a lick, have them convince the media that you can. Then thousands of people who can't think on their own will be brainwashed to believe you truly have a gift.
