edit: original can't be Charley Pride....he didn't make his debut until 1966...Jerry Wallace recorded Shutters and Boards in 1963. I don't know of anyone else that recorded it...but I've heard that Jimmy Dean also recorded it...but I don't know the year.

Jerry Wallace recorded the original and believe it or not it was co-written by the great Audie Murphy the WW2 hero and actor who also co-wrote others such as "Dusty Old Helmet" and "When The Wind Blows in Chicago" that Jerry also recorded
