I think it is about getting older and having been damaged a little by life.

It's exactly like the person above me says,it's about how life can "break" you,how we all carry wounds with us,either visible or not.I think this song was also inspired a little by Richie's situation while they were recording the album,there's much pain and truth in it,I love it!
