well since i own that cd and have heard the song a million times, i can tell you it is about a couple who is parting ways at the end of summer. the girl is going off to college and the boy will be taking a job at his dad's shop in town. the song is taking place on the eve of their departures.

never heard the song, but i'm thinking "the night before life goes on" is one of those nights you feel devastated by something. like your life is over, or when you feel really scared, or when you feel like giving up, and the night is super lonely and sad, and then the effing sun comes up, and you're like,...hey, that only sucked last night, today's a new day...CUZ YOU GOT THROUGH IT.
