My dad wants some Country Western cds for XMas any ideas? Thanks?

He has all the old ones, so I am looking for new ones with artists that sing and have songs like the old ones. True country, not rock a billy or songs with rocked out country.

waylon jennings box set is really good. Also anything by George Strait, Alan Jackson...merle haggard also has a box set out. Alabama is good.
**Dale Watson-really good voice, sounds somewhat like waylon
**Wayne Hancock-I have 2 of his cds "thunderstorms and neon signs" and "that's what daddy wants" both really good, sounds a little like Hank Sr

Depends on what kind of country he wants. Old country, I would suggest the Johnny Cash The Complete Sun Recordings 1955-1958. It should be available at music stores right now. If he likes newer country I would suggest the Garth Brooks Complete collection. BTW the Johnny cash one is about $40.

yeah ol' toby keiths got a good one out
its got traditional stuff and some other stuff too

I'd go with George Strait, Blake Shelton, Rodney Adkins, or Joe Nichols.

After 2000, there was a surge of cd's that reflected back on the 20th century, my favorite is a 2 disc set called "Country: The American Tradition" which covers a little bit of country from the first time it was really called "country" in the early 20th century, up to the 90s, here's a link to that:

For new traditionalists, there are a few, my favorite is Larry Cordle and Lonesome Standard Time, here is a link to their website. There stuff will be harder to find, probably better off ordering from the website directly (Murder on Music Row is a good one):

Onother oddball one he might like is from "Honky Tonk Confidential", who recorded a cd with Bob Schieffer (former news anchor) called Road Kill Stew. There is a song on that called "Girl Named Dick" which is a reprise to "Boy Named Sue" by Johnny Cash, and it's just a hoot!
