Anyone actually been to Luckenbach Texas? (Willie & Waylon song)?

Anyone on yahoo answers actually been to Luckenbach Texas? Tell me what it is like!

I used to hang out their on the weekends. It's only about 15mi from where I live. I,ve been to Willie's 4Th of July. I,ve seen the likes of Gary P Nunn, Chris Wall, Charlie Robison,Jerry Jeff Walker,Cooder Graw has played their, Ray Price played their. Asleep at the wheel and many many other great bands. Luckenbach consists of a dance hall and a post office which is now the main store and bar. You can get all your collectibles in their from shirts, koozies, cap's, shot glasses and many other items. They have pictures of Hondo Crouch (the founder of Luckenbach) and during the week you can bring your guitar and pick for the visitors under the big oak trees. One of my favorite events is the women's chili cook off held in late fall. It attracts a wide variety of entertainment and people you will likely never meet anywhere else but in Luckenbach. It's only a little hole in the wall made popular by a song. If you expect to find something big you will be disappointed. But to the locals it's just a place to hang out on weekends have a beer and listen to some good ol' Texas based music.

It's a fun place. It's a small little town in the country, with great atmosphere. Depending on the night, you can see a concert in the hall or locals sitting around, picking a guitar in the general store. Definitely make the trip if you can!

Check out their Web site too.

Nope

No, but I love that song, and I smoked a J with Willie in 1994 after a concert...

yes, cute little town but really nothing to write home about...my opinion, though

Yes, I've been there. Quaint little town. Had 1 parking meter when I was there. If your close, make the trip, if not, not worth a long drive.

Yup........visited there is the early 70's -quite by accident, actually. Long before it became a tourist spot.

A friend and I were headed westbound out of Austin, TX on the same road that goes through/by Dripping Springs.

Just happened to notice a sign that read "Luchenbach," of course. We had to check it out. There wasn't a living soul there. Their were a few thousand "dead soldiers" scattered about though...........ah..............am referring to empty beer cans, 99.9% of which were Lone Star brand, may have been 10 or 12 empty "Pearls" as well !!

We were there on a Sunday.........word was that Jerry Jeff Walker had done a show there on Friday..hence the empties - LOL

Drove through Luckenbach on my way from San Francisco, CA to San Antonio, TX back in June of 1996.

Only in my mind...I'm so wanting to everytime i hear that song.

Been there many times in the 60s and 70s before it was made popular because of the song. Had more than a few beers with Hondo. Heard his views on life. Sang for him. Was with Townes, JJW, Steve Fromholtz, and Guy Clark while doing the Kerrville Folk Festival.
Not much there. One beer hall. A few outbuildings. Lots of shade tree with wasp nests. Very peaceful and quiet.... at least when we were there.
I quit going after the song came out and the place got busy.... considered the place "ruined" by the tourists.

Yes, a small typical Texas town when I was through there many years ago. Not bad, but not much there. At least its not Shamrock. I spent a month there one night about thirty years ago.
