Waylon Jennings and Tommy Allsup who played in Buddy Holly's Band gave their seats to Richie Valens and The Big Bopper. The Big Bopper had a cold and wanted to go ahead of the bus because the bus was cold and the heater didn't work properly. I visited with Tommy Allsup about 4 years ago and we did discuss this. He told me that Waylon always blamed himself because he and Buddy had been joking and Buddy said to Waylon I hope that old bus freezes and Waylon told Buddy yeah and I hope your ole plane crashes and unfortunately that is what happened and Waylon had a hard time getting over it but it was all in jest.
