i have heard Johnny Hiland, brent mason, doug seven, and other country guitarist playing a real fast bouncy guitar that seems impossible for me to do. is there anyone out there who can demonstrate it or describe it slow...very slow so i can do it? I'm not familiar with the players you mentioned, but "chicken picking" came out of the Bakersfield sound. Don Rich-Buck Owens' lead guitarist- was the master of chicken picking. also check out Joe Maphis.
Not to be rude, but the answer above mine is incorrect. Chicken picking is not fingerpicking. It is done with a pick and finger. Pull out as you pluck the string, and immediately reduce the pressure at the fret to dampen the note.
Good Luck. Its just finger picking. You hold chords and pick the strings with your fingers in ways that sound well. Obviously i dont teach guitar but i play it. |
