I was country when country wasn't cool?

Sung by Barbara Mandrel Half way thro song on the line "Yeah I was country" the voice changes Question is that really Barbara Singing that line ? I love that song anyways Thx

Thx to all Guess George Jones was the one

I'm with lucky, the version played most often is the one where she does it as a duet with George Jones.

Theres part of the song that is sung by George Jones, is that the part you mean by the voice changes?

"I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool" Barbara Mandrell & George Jones / Written by Kye Fleming & Dennis Morgan / Charted Country #1 1998

Lyrics:
I remember wearing straight leg Levis; flannel shirts
Even when they weren't in style
I remember singing with Roy Rogers at the movies
When the West was really wild.

And I was listening to the Opry
When all of my friends were digging Rock 'n Roll
And Rhythm & Blues
I was Country, when Country wasn't cool.

I remember circling the drive-in, pulling up
And turning down George Jones
I remember when no one was looking
I was putting peanuts in my Coke.

I took a lot of kidding
'Cause I never did fit in
Now look at everybody trying to be what I was then
I was Country, when Country wasn't cool.

I was Country, when Country wasn't cool
I was Country, from my hat down to my boots
I still act and look the same
What you see ain't nothing new
I was Country, when Country wasn't cool.

They call us country bumpkins
For sticking to our roots
I'm just glad we're in a country
Where we're all free to choose
I was Country, when Country wasn't cool.

Hey, I was country when Country wasn't cool
Ya, I was Country, from my hat down to my boots
I still act and look the same
What you see ain't nothing new
I was Country, when Country wasn't cool.

Ya, I was country when Country wasn't cool

The song makes reference to George Jones(>>Turning up the radio listening to George Jones>......)
And there is a part that George Jones sings in this modified duet.

yes it is

Country is cool now?? This is the first i've heard.... Sorry, i'm sure it's great for you, just not my taste at all. I think it's popular in the 'country'/rural areas tho.
