What's the deal w/ Luke & Lorelei on 'Gilmore Girls'?

...never saw the series, when it was on primetime; recently, started following it, in reruns-- they skip around a lot (episodes are not shown in any particular order) so I can't figure out if Luke & Lorelei ever slept together/ dated, or what... did they ever consummate their relationship?... did they ever actually even date? (or did they just continue to kind of pointlessly circle around each other, throughout the series?)

Luke & Lorelai flirted a whole lot for the first four seasons, and each of them had their own respective relationships going on too. Lorelai dated Rory's teacher Max Medina & was engaged to him for awhile, then briefly dated a guy named Alex, and finally her father's business associate Jason Stiles. She also had occasional encounters with Rory's father Christopher. Luke had a relationship with Rachel (who he had also dated many years ago), and then a lawyer named Nicole who he also briefly married then divorced. Lorelai and Luke finally got together at the end of season 4 after going together to his sister's wedding. After that they dated for a long time, lots of sleeping together involved. They briefly broke up when Christopher started showing up a lot and tried to come between them during a party for Lorelai's parents' vow renewal. Then got back together. A few months later, they got engaged. They first put off a wedding because Lorelai & Rory were not speaking after Rory dropped out of Yale, and Lorelai really wanted Rory to be part of the wedding. Then Luke found out he had a 12 year old daughter from a relationship many years ago, while Lorelai was in the middle of making wedding plans. In trying to figure out his role as a father, he shut Lorelai out and they became more and more distant. Lorelai finally couldn't take it anymore and asked him to elope. He said he needed to think about it, and she left him to go sleep with Christopher. Luke came to her the next day, agreeing to elope, but she told him she had already slept with Christopher. For almost a year, they did not speak to each other (though they were clearly still in love, even at a distance), and Lorelai even married Christopher (they divorced after a few months when Christopher found a letter of recommendation she was writing for Luke's custody case & realised that Lorelai still loved Luke). Finally after Rory graduated Yale and Luke put together a surprise party for her literally overnight, Lorelai went back to him. And that ends the series...
