In law and order svu why did olivia leave the special victims unit?

The actress went on maternity leave. On the show the reasons they came up with for her absence were:
1. First, Olivia felt her and Elliot were too close to be partners (the episode where she asks for a new partner is called Fault), but she came back after a few episodes.
2. Then, she goes undercover during a case and, after that, she is recruited by the FBI to continue undercover investigations. She is gone for a while this time, and even once she comes home she doesn't come back to work (or tell Elliot she's back) immediately.

Temporarily to have a baby (In real life) she is supposed to come back though.

She left the first time to work with the fbi, and the second time because her and Stabler were getting to close in her mind. But in real life it was to have a baby.
