how do the telovisions companies know how many people watch a certain show, and what are the telovision pionts a certain show recieves means?

There are several rating companies working in the television market. They gather information by installing monitoring boxes on the sets in homes across the country. These boxes tell them who is watching what and when.
Some others use a television viewers log to find out who is watching.
The numbers used are for the advertisers to know where to put their ads.
Two of the largest ratings services are Arbitron and Neilson.

nelson ratings. if you participate, you have a box that keeps track of what you watch. it may be accurate but only to the amount of people in the survey and not the total amount of viewers. the points come from those watchers and what they thought of that show they just rated.
