Last season for Tennant as Who - first semi-official news?

Apparently Catherine Tate has said it may be David Tennant's last season in the Tardis next year - and it'll definitely be hers.

I will need this to be confirmed before I believe it, but Who ever gets the part needs to be able to portray both the lighter side of the Doctor and the Darker side which David Tennant does so very very well.

I'm going to wait until it's confirmed. I've heard all sorts of rumours recently one even said Lily Allen was going to be the new assistant.

I wouldn't say this is even semi-official. Does Catherine Tate know something that the BBC hierarchy and the DW production team don't? I tend to doubt it.

Until the BBC or David Tennant himself say otherwise, I think her comments must be taken as nothing more than hearsay. The fact the her comment began with the words "I think it's maybe", means that this is likely to be an impression that she has formed in her mind, rather than anything that has actually been said.

Jane Tranter (head of BBC drama), has as much as said that Tennant will be playing the Doctor in series 5. Also, interestingly, the guy who is taking over from Julie Gardner as Doctor Who producer in 2010 has said that he's looking forward to working with David Tennant. Also, If Tennant wasn't going to be playing the Doctor after the 2009 hiatus, why have a hiatus to allow him time for other work at all? It just doesn't make any sense if Tennant isn't playing the Doctor in 2010.

She might of course mean that the next series will be his last full series, which is a possibility if the Doctor regenerates during series 5.

As for Catherine Tate leaving, I'm not surprised since she has a successful career of her own to consider, and a single series is obviously enough to have satisfied her ambition to appear regularly in DW.

As I've said on a number of previous occasions, I would love to see Mark Gatiss playing the Doctor, but I tend to think the 11th Doctor will turn out to be a new actor who few people have heard of.

As for new companions, who knows what might happen with the return of Rose. Although the BBC are keeping very quiet on how long she's returning for, it's possible that she might be back as a regular. Also Martha might travel with the Doctor beyond series 4.

There was a rumour earlier in the year about Lilly Allen. She might actually be pretty good as a companion. The most popular choice though, would probably be Carey Mulligan who played Sally Sparrow in "Blink".

But i have to agree with Spacephanton with this news, It's not official and has not been confirmed by the BBC. So i say watch this space this mite be David Tennant's last season in the TARDIS but wait for the BBC to confirm this first.
