The writer strike?

Can someone please explain to me what exactly is going on?
Also, when do you think it will be over, because the whole not showing new episodes of Ugly Betty and Grey's anatomy is starting to upset me.
Also is there anything us fans can do?

In a nutshell, when you buy a movie or TV show on DVD, four cents go to the screenwriter. This is an amount that was set twenty years ago, and the guild wants it raised to eight cents. Also, when you download a movie or TV show from iTunes, Amazon Unboxed, Netflicks or other online store, or when you watch advertising-sponsored streaming shows, the actors, directors and producers get paid but the writer gets nothing. The guild wants the writer to get paid for their work. The studios insist they don't know if it will be profitable, so they refuse to pay anything.

As for when it will be over, the studios have refused to give ground at all and walked out of negotiations recently, so it may be a while. The last strike lasted 22 weeks.

writers want money from the internet profits the studios are making off them. have no idea when it will end. you can contact the studios and tell them what you think of their money grubbing, greedy ways.
