Doctor Who: Do you think it would be a good idea to remake lost classic episodes with new actors?

Many of the early Doctor Who stories featuring the first and second Doctors were lost in the 1970s when the BBC wiped the tapes.

Do you think it would be a good idea to make modern versions of those that remain lost, with up to date production values and current actors? e.g. Classic stories like "The Dalek's Master Plan" or "The Web of Fear".

If so, who do you think should play the first and second Doctors and their companions?

I would love to see the old stories retold. As a child I was never allowed to watch Doctor Who (my dad thought it was rubbish) so now I'm making up for it with my own child.

That would be fun. The current doctor could play the role - after all, he IS the doctor.

I think this would be a waste of time. The stories in the new Dr Who are so superior that this would just remind people how cr*p the programme used to be.

billie piper should play doctor who

remade? yes. modern version? no, if it was set in the 60's or 70's keep it that way, i don't want to see a Hartnell episode set after 2000 let alone 1980

that depends, i'd first see who from the old cast was still around and how well they've aged (or in some cases, how much their offspring looks like them)

In many (most?) cases they still have the soundtrack, but not the vision.
I think a better plan would be to use CGI animation to re-create the episodes. They could then match the appearance of the doctor and the companions to those in the episodes which still exist.
The CGI could be down-graded to match the video quality of the old episodes. This was the technique used in the 'Daleks Invasion of earth' when they did an upgraded effect for the spaceship but down-graded the grainy quality if the film to match the rest of the episode.

This idea is pure genius!
There are also the Tom Baker scripts (Shada etc) lost to that big strike in the 1980's. I think there should be an overarching plot using as many of Tom BaKer, Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy as are up to it - with their appropriate companions - perhaps Tom Baker could call upon his three successors to rewrite the lost lines of time to save Gallifrey from the destruction it has received in the new series. He could send them on two or three adventures each, as long as the scripts get a little updating first.
Yours hoping, Steve.

Well thay have animated missing episodes of The Invasion with the 2nd Doctor Patrick Troughton.
And thay have animated a 45 minutes serial of The Infinite Quest with the 10th Doctor David Tennant. I think thay should remake lost classic episodes into cartoon form.

no way, forget the old and on with the NEW!

I don't think that in the long run it would prove economical to do as the episodes would require a relativly high budget and would draw a comparably low audience (say 1-2 million viewers regularly).
As a single story remake with look-alike actors and sets may work well though. Especially to fill in some lost pieces of apartially complete story. As a one-off event this could happily justify the expenditure.
In the long term more animated sections like in "The Invasion" seem the way forward. In fact certain stories (for example "The Celestial Toymaker") would be brilliant with the "lost" episodes animated in colour!
Actually "The Celestial Toymaker" would be an ideal epsiode to remake full-stop because in most of the "lost" stories The Doctor is invisible so William Harnell's voice could just be transfered to the episode!

yes they should, they would be updated with better actors/acting and better effects

Hell no. I think if they must redo the lost episodes, they should do what they did with the missing episodes of "The Invasion" and animate them to the original audio. I'm a die-hard Patrick Troughton and Frazer Hines fan, so I can't see anyone else playing Two and Jamie.

They do have the audio for all the episodes, so animate before recasting and refilming.
