I read somewhere that pisceans are especially prone to mood swings...?

Your wrong. I'm a pisces. And everyone has mood swings. The zodiac has nothing to do with it.

I'm piscean, and I definitely have them. I know another piscean and he has them too. My girlfriend is pisces, but doesn't seem to have them. Maybe it's mainly the men.

Pisces is a Water sign. They're highly sensitive and emotions run deep. They feel very strongly and this is a part of who they are. I wouldn't say 'mood swings' as that suggests a certain fickleness in emotion.
What Pisceans do and can do is soak up the feelings and mood of those around them like a sponge. They 'sense' atmosphere and this will affect their mood, it is bound to.
Now Cancerians, ruled by the Moon, another Water sign are prone to mood swings. Watch them around the time of the full moon! That's when they are at their most sensitive.
