Smooth jazz fans -
I was listening to davekoz.com at my last job as there are no jazz stations at all in my listening area over the airwaves.
My new job doesn't allow internet access but does allow a cd player. I'm going to burn a couple CDs from stuff I own, but wonder if anyone knows of some good compilation CDs.
I'm still learning about smooth jazz, but I like most everything so far, preferring flowing to staccato styles. They feed my soul.
In fact, the only total dislike so far is anything with Anita Baker. For whatever reason, her voice grates on me intensely, which is odd for my usually temperate musical spirit.
So, help a lady out in her quest to feed my soul with smooth jazz. Thanks for your time in advance. Welcome to the world of Smooth Jazz. You mentioned that you were listening to Dave Koz. Some other saxaphone players you might find interesting are Jeff Kashiwa, his website is: http://www.jeffkashiwa.com
Paul Taylor: http://www.paultaylor.com
Mindi Abair http://www.mindiabair.com
For groups check out The Rippingtons http://www.rippingtons.com
If you like guitar work check out also Lee Ritenour, my favorite album by him is Wesbound (did some of the songs by Wes Montgomery with an updated twist)
For other compilation CDs one that I have that I think you'll like was an album called "A Tribute to the Music of the Beatles". IM or e-mail me off site and I'll dig up the exact name of the album but it is a truly amazing album. Also, if you like some of the Motown style songs with words check out the instrumental version called "A Twist of Motown".
One of the other posters mentioned Brazilian style. For Smooth Jazz check out "A Twist of Jobim" (an updated version of some of the songs by an artist of the last name of Jobim (I want to say his first name is Antonio Carlos Jobim but can't remember for sure right now).
Please feel free to e-mail or IM me off site any time just to talk about Smooth Jazz. try Great Ladies of Jazz vol 1 & 2. It's not all completley smooth but they've got some of the best of the best. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFhsAnzWX...

http://www.limewire.com/ Move your desk into the elevator. There are a couple of CDs called "Chill Brazil", VOl 1 and VOl 2.
They are very nice and relaxing and feature all the great Brazilian artists. If you like that kind of music, I highly recommend them. Not exactly smooth jazz, but smooth music and some of it is jazz. |
