I am loking to buy a good trombone for a highschool band and Jazz band, i would like some suggestions as to what model would be good to get. Thx :) I played a Conn 88H in the jazz band, concert band and orchestra, it is a great all around trombone. It may depend on what part you play also. If you are the lead in the jazz band you might want a smaller bore horn. A Bach Stradavarious is a great one also. It is available with or without the F attachement. Yamaha also makes some good student line trombones. Talk to teachers, talk to players, then go to a music store and play some for yourself. Some stores, depending on their policy may loan them to you for a week or so, so that you can try them out. Probably the best jazz trombone would be a King 3B. Historically, most great jazz trombone players have played that, and that's what I got right before I entered high school. However, it can be pretty expensive (about $1750). If that's to much or if you're not sure about playing jazz for long, you could get one used or a Yamaha (those are supposed to be pretty good these days). If you're going to play both jazz and classical music, then you should be fine with a classical horn, not that there's much of a difference. Also, talk a trombone teacher if you know any. |
