What is a good starting place for jazz fusion guitar?

I'm fairly new to jazz and really love electric jazz guitar, especially rock/jazz fusion. Would anyone point me to some essential listening?

Some of the first, from the early 1970's...

Tony Williams-Emergency!. With John McLaughlin on guitar. Great, creative guitar solos.

Frank Zappa-Hot Rats. Great album, particularly the song Little Umbrellas.

Jeff Beck-Wired. A little more on the rock side.

I have no idea

Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, Scott Henderson, Carlos Rios, Pat Metheny, Mike Stern. Just to name a few.

Try Bela Fleck

"Loud Jazz" and "Pick Hits Live" by John Scofield. Also check out his other CDs. You can listen to clips on Amazon.com.

"Is What It Is" and "Between The Lines" by Mike Stern. (and check out his others, too).

"Tricycle" by Larry Coryell.

That should keep you busy for awhile.
