"Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis
"Buddy Rich Swingin' New Big Band" with Sister Sadie, you can't go wrong with miles or coltrane... Start in the 50's and work your way to present time.
Start with the Bebop years. Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. Then get into the Cool Jazz/West coast jazz, Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Shorty Rogers and many others. Then move into the Big Bands of the 70's, Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson, Stan Kenton and Woody Herman. The 80's One of the great big bands, Rob McConnell and the Boss Brass. Then the 90's and the "new young jazz lions". Wynton Marsalis, Roy Hargrove, and many others. This is just a small sampling of jazz music to listen too. Do not allow yourself to just listen to one or two players or styles of jazz. LISTEN TO THEM ALL. There are so many great players from the past to the present that I have not mentioned here. With a tool like the internet just get on their and google JAZZ PLAYERS, JAZZ MUSIC, JAZZ HISTORY, JAZZ TRUMPETERS, JAZZ SAXAPHONISTS, etc etc. Listening and appreciating JAZZ is a life long pursuit. Enjoy! |
