I saw him live in copenhagen and in new york it was one of the greatest experiences of my life, hes not the same on record its still good but you dont get anywhere near the real energy you got live. You have succeeded in bringing to light several musicians that most people do not listen to or respect very highly. What is your purpose? If it is to bring these names to the front of some of our minds, you have succeeded. But, I cannot say that any of these musicians are standouts. I'm not too familiar with him but I do know that John Coltrane was a huge admirer of Ayler.
The reason why Ayler is on the Impulse label is because of Coltrane's repeated suggestions to the people at Impulse. Coltrane admired and listened to Ayler often. |
