Jazz questions.?

Hey, thanks for checking out my questions.

1. Where online can I listen to some jazz music? (I'm specifically looking for jazz featuring saxophones) Can anyone give me a place online I can listen to or dowload a few songs?

2. Who are some really good, famous alto or tenor saxophone players?

3. I heard about one saxophone player but I only remember his first name is Sunny. Does anyone know his last name?

If you can answer any of these questions that'd be great! Thanks so much!

Thanks Peace. Love. Seafood guy! It was Sunny Rollins. My jazz band teacher gave me the assingment to look up some of his work.

I play alto and tenor in high school jazz and our teacher makes us listen to jazz all the time. Anyway thanks.

1. www.accuradio.com has a saxophone jazz station that you can listen to for free.
There are tons of places online to download music, just make sure you are paying for it. Especially for jazz, they do not get paid the big bucks from concerts or CDs that pop musicians get, so be kind and help support the art by supporting the artists who struggle to make it doing what they love.
2. There are tons of great saxophone players. Charlie Parker, Paul Desmond, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Kenny G (some don't consider him jazz, but you only asked for famouse saxophone players, and he is that), just to name a few. There are tons out there.
3. Sonny Rollins, you already had this answer.

I don't know a lot about jazz but I thought you might be referring to Sonny Boy Williamson, except he was a harmonica player!
Check out English jazz saxophonist Jim Tomlinson & his American wife, Stacey Kent.

1. Alright, go to www.projectplaylist.com and make an account. You can look up any song and add it into a playlist. It's a really good source.

2. Charlie Parker
John Coltrane
Lester Young
Coleman Hawkins
Sonny Rollins
Stan Getz
Sonny Stitt
Ornette Coleman

3. Perhaps Sonny Rollins or Sonny Stitt?

Don't forget Candy Dulfer.Awesome 80's 90's sax player.
Recorded "Lily was here"- a classic.
David Sanborn- "Voyeur" album

Log onto Amazon.com and find Gerald Albright playing "Georgia". It will knock your socks off.
I'm sure the others will tell you the obvious ones (John Coltrane, etc).

Don't forget:

2. Wayne Shorter, Kenny Garrett, Joe Lovano, Chris Potter.....

1. get on to pandora.com, it's a radio station that tracks what you want to listen to, so when you're setting it up, put in names like Charlie parker, John coltrane, stan getz, courtney pine, charlie ventura, Vito Musso, to name a few, a little more modern, have a look at Dave sanborn, branford marsalis, and Michael Brecker, and Tom Scott, the sax player you're probably looking for is sonny Stitt.

Hope that helps,

Yes, Sonny Rollins is who you are looking for. Also check out John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, Michael Brecker, Joe Lovano, Stanely Turrentine, Stan Getz and Joshua Redman (for Tenor) and Charlie Parker, Cannonball Adderly, David Sanborn, Phil Woods and Kenney Garrett (for Alto).

A great place to hear jazz is online at just about any NPR (National Public Radio) station. Most of them run some sort of a jazz program. Salt Lake City Utah has KUER FM 90.1 and every evening after 7 pm till way late they run a jazz lineup that would scratch your itch for some cool jazz.

I hope I helped lead you in the right direction. I've been playing saxophone for 27 years and I love jazz. I hope you decide to make it a large part of your listening time.

Thanks for asking great questions,
John

Here's a list of Jazz Saxophone artists that come to mind:
Kirk Whalum, Paul Taylor, and John Tesh.

Check em out.

dont forget dave Koz, david sandborn and Kenny G... little more modern, but still good players

Here's a great tenor player on the west coast.. Mike Zilber.. He's a monster. Also, check out Bob Berg(he passed a couple years ago in an auto accident). Michael Brecker is another great player who is no longer with us.
