Question about jazz band and Bass guitar?

Okay im Damon in eigth grade and im gonna tryout for jazz band,is the bass clef just one fret down of the actual note Or what.Cause I am learning Jammin With Charlie and i played a regular B and it sounded wrong so i went down a fret and it sounded rite and it sounded rite with all the other notes too...so tell me all you know and if im correct. please and thank you

Check the key signature. Maybe you were supposed to play a B flat (A string, 1st fret.) Or, like mentioned above, your A string could be a half-step off.

Are you sure you're in tune with the rest of the band? I would think that if you're reading the music and you're supposed to play the B but it sounded sharp then you're probably out of tune. Were all of your other notes in tune?

Jazz is just the one of the dumbest of music
