the music used to be the soundtrack for the LAGOS WEEKEND TELEVISION in the early 1980s.
lagos is a nigerian city. Well, since I was never in Lagos or Nigeria in my life, I cannot say for certain who that may have been. But when I think of Nigerian music, I think of Babatunde Olatunji, Fela Anikulapo Kuti or King Sunny Ade. Kuti mixes jazz, hip-hop and funk into his sound and Ade plays mostly Ju-Ju music. Babatunde Olatunji is a drummer/percussionist who was friends with John Coltrane and played with Clark Terry, Horace Silver, Yusef Lateef and Charles Lloyd, among others. He collaborated with Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart on the 'Planet Drum' projects. Carlos Santana covered his song 'Jingo-lo-ba' (retitled by Santana as simply 'Jingo') and had a big hit from it.
