JOHNNY HARTMAN AND SHIRLEY HORN are best jazz singers ever in jazz history. Do you agree? Listen to them first

I recommend you listen to them before answer, but listen carefully;they were voice gifted by nature.

That's a provactive statement, but I would agree that they are among the best. They both brought an incredible degree of sophistication and elegance to the jazz voice, no question. Both are very laid back and mellow singers. I could understand their being called the best, but there is a whole lot of competition in that.

Nina Simone
Sarah Vaughn
Cleo Laine
Ella Fitzgerald
Carmen McRae

no way, jose, i'm going to have to go with

ella fitzgerald
and
mel torm茅

I like Joe Williams. I got a chance to see him with Louis Bellson in the 1980s.

Don't forget Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross.

But my fave has to be Nat "King" Cole.

Betty Carter
Carmen McRAE
Cassandra Wilson
Nancy Wilson
Flora Purim
Joe Williams
Billy Ecksteim
Sarah Vaughn
Lou Rawls
Jean Carn
Anita Moore
Ella
Billie, u know the last names, so many more.

Not at all:
Ella
Cleo Laine
Joe Williams

I'm intimately familiar with both jazz greats.

The best male singer was the original, Louis Armstrong. He revolutionized pop singing in the 1920s and continued to be a phemom all the way until he died in the 1970s.

The best female singer was, without question in my mind, Billie Holiday. She could SELL the song like no other woman before or since, bar none.
