Bob James and "smooth jazz" are good answers, but if you are really looking for the romantic stuff, several albums were issued in the 60's I think, under the name "Jackie Gleason Orchestra (and/or Chorus)". These albums feature lush, full-orchestra versions of jazz and pop tunes and are all A-1 make-out music. The music sets the right mood for romance and stays in the background! There are some instrumentals but even the vocals are spot-on for romance, with the vocal arrangements very subdued and the voices blended into the music excellently well. I don't know who recorded these things, but the musicianship is very good and everyone works to the same end: background setting for a close encounter! I am a long-time jazz musician and I love these albums! They are not my favorites for just listening to the music, but when I have something else in mind, this music is the best.
