i was trying to compose a jazz piece for my jazz band at school, but the problem is, i can only play trombone and piano(both key of C). i was wondering if anybody could tell me what keys barry sax, alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, electric bass, guitar, and flute are in...if anybody could give me a list or post a link to a website that shows it, i would greatly appreciate it. also if you could include whether it is commonly played in treble clef or bass clef Flute: Right at the pitch itself.
Alto: Eb, sounds down a major 6th from the note it reads
Tenor: Bb, sounds down a major 9th
Bari: Eb, sounds down a major 13th
Trumpet: Bb, sounds down a major 2nd
Guitar: C, sounds down an octave - note, most guitar parts are just "slashes" with chord symbols, not all written out all the way. Look at guitar parts to see what I mean. When you do write specific notes, they sound down an octave.
Bass: C bass clef, sounds down an octave
As an arranger myself, let me offer a suggestion. I started out writing scores in C, where no instruments transpose. (I write them transposed now, but it's easier to start out using concert scores.) You'll need to transpose the ranges and important transition areas of the instrument to concert key and make a chart.
For example, the alto sax has as its lowest note Db middle of the bass clef, and the top note is Ab above the treble clef (unless the sax has a F# key, then A natural is available). But the best range is F on the fourth line of the bass clef to F on top of the treble. Make your chart show those sort of details so you know you're writing parts that lay well on the instrument. If you're not sure, talk to a good player about it.
The parts, of course, must be transposed. I lost my keys once, ened up with the bitches brew i play flute. we're concert C
basically....we're all the same notes as the piano.
hope i helped I know guitar, electric bass, and flute are in C also. Trumpet is in Bb, and I'm not sure about the others. Alto= Eb
Tenor= Bb
Bari= Bb (low)
Trumpet=Bb
Guitar= C
Flute= C
Electric Bass= C Flute:C-Treble Clef
Trumpet:Bb(Major 2nd)-treble clef
Alto Sax:Eb(Major 6th)-treble clef
Tenor Sax:Bb(Major 9th)-sumtimes bass clef,but mostly treble clef
Baritone Sax:Eb(Major 13th)-bass clef
Elec. Guitar: C-Treble Clef
Bass Guitar:C-Bass Clef Jazzshow is the closest, other than the bari sax does not read bass clef, it reads treble clef. All saxophones read treble clef. The tenor and bari sound the bass clef notes but they read treble. Even alto for nearly half the instrument sounds bass clef but always reads treble. Trumpet Bb
Flute Bb
I play both these, but they might be C, depending on what key you get |
