I have a perfomance tomorrow for my jazz band and i have no grease for my trumpet..... Is there a substitute? I'm assuming you mean slide grease and not valve oil. If you mean slide grease, try crisco. It actually works better (in my experience) because it doesn't take as long to work in as slide grease. I use it only on the 3rd valve slide. I don't know of a great substitute for tuning slide grease, but I doubt that's what you're talking about (you rarely have a dire need for tuning slide grease). If it is, Vaseline would work in a pinch. Your tuning slide doesn't have to move quickly so the viscous nature shouldn't be a problem. If he were talking about valve oil spit is an excellent solition for your valves. Report It try and find valve oil. but if you can't, i believe you can use vaseline. i know the trombone players in my jazz band use it when they run out of grease. Dishwashing soap and water. I knew a fellow who used that on his valves and swore by it. I would not recomment Vaseline, too viscous. |
