Whats the difference between blues and the form AABA in jazz? |
thats about it Blues is a general genre of music and a basic chord progession that people have taken and changed in many different permutations. AABA is a way fo describing the form of a piece, and can be applied to the blues form, or other forms too. That's a non sequeter. Blues is usually a 12 bar form and AABA has an A section twice, a B section (the bridge), and repeats the A section again. The blues usually consists of lots of 7th chords (dominant) and AABA usually consists of many different types of chords and progressions like II V I. It can get complicated. If really want to learn about things like that I'd recommend The Jazz Theory Book by Mark Levine. It's great. Blues is a 12 bar form. It can take an enormous variety of formats the only common link being that you have a IV chord in bar 5. Traditionally, it's something like I IV I I IV IV I I V IV I V. |
