Hi
I'm a student from London, i've taken a gap year before starting music college. I play jazz piano. I want to go somewhere where the weather is great, there's lots to do like keeping fit, relax in the sun, and meet other friendly people. One important thing is somewhere where I can also play jazz with other people! Young adults, or very experienced oldies I don't mind. Preferrably in a club setting, or a casual thing. Any suggestions?
It's likely to be an independant holiday (just myself). I plan on going sometime after January. No! Get it over and done with then take the rest of your life off! In these enlightened days almost every town has a jazz bar, or somewhere that you can gig. The only danger is that your kind of jazz might not be what the locals consider to be "proper", but have fun anyway.
Where you go also depends on how much cash you've got to spend and how well you manage with languages. Pick somewhere safe, so you can actually come back to do your course. Cuba sounds like the ideal place. Warm, scenic, swim with dolphins, water sports, smoke cigars, play at all hours of the night with jazz musicians and in a communist country it will give you a great insight as to another type of lifestyle. Have fun though wherever you decide to go in the end. |
