Can acoustic guitars play jazz? PLEASE ANSWER THE QUESTION!!?

oh and im just getting a guitar and i love jazz, hip-hop,r&b,soul, and rock so and im 12 and so should i get it at wal mart? or online and the budget is around 150. and im getting an acoustic. and what inch should i get. im pretty tall for my age so...oh i also play the piano and flute

Definitely. It's not in the guitar, it's in the guitarist.

Yes.

You have to discover what you want todo. It appears that you have too many choices and in my opiniion, you should refine them. Do what you do best!!

dont get it from wal mart! are you crazy! they sell good stuff but they dont got much of a selection on music instruments. Go get one from some good store like marshal and music. And yeah they can play jazz if you can cuz like that one guy said its all in the player

Yes - my guitar teacher plays jazz on ANY kind of guitar. You're 12 and just starting out? Then a Wal-Mart guitar should be fine for your first one, till you get an idea of what you're doing, and even if you like it as much as you thought you would. You want something that fits you - you don't want to have to stretch to reach the end of the neck. A standard size should be all right for you. Good luck!

you can play acoustic jazz or acoustic anything really . a cheap one to start is fine cause you dont want to get a fender and not play it in 2 years . acoustic will be harder to press down and a bit awkward at first but perfect practice makes perfect playing

Yes,definitely. Django Reinhart for one.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT GET IT AT WALMART!!

Walmart will rip you off with cheap junk. If you want the best kind of guitars, go online or look for individual music stores. I'll provide links at the bottom to show you sites that you can get good supplies from.

As for what kind of guitar plays jazz, pretty much bass guitars hit the low sounds, where as electric guitars hit the high pitch sounds. Rock from the 80's was common with the eletric guitar. I'll show you a movie with bbking playing the eletric guitar if I can find one for you.

musiciansfriend.com is a good place to get quality instruments at a good price, i got my drum set there. I have a washburn acoustic electric guitar that i got at a local music store but it was like $250. musician's friend usually has free shipping for larger orders too and stuff ships quickly. I wouldn't recommend ever buying instruments from walmart, they are likely to be more of a toy than anything that will sound good and last long. As far as the jazz, hip-hop, r&b, soul, and rock goes, go ahead and get an accoustic if that's what you want. if you are just starting to learn it doesn't matter. Acoustics are nice because you can bring them anywhere and play them w/out having to worry about an amp. The differences come down to mostly extra effects that you can get with an electric guitar, (like feedback in rock music) also an electric guitar has thinner strings so it doesn't hurt as much to play.

You can play any kind of music on an acoustic guitar. However, jazz is quite difficult, there is a lot of syncopation in it. Perhaps you want to start with a few traditional songs? Lol. The guitar most jazz guitarists apparently like (that is, you can think about that once you play well) is an acoustic electric with the 'f' shape cut onto it. Here's a pic:

Of course an acoustic guitar can play jazz.
As mentioned, Django Reinhardt played it and I also have 2 albums of Alexandre Lagoya that plays jazz on acoustic guitar.
One is with jazz pianist Claude Bolling and the other one is with flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal.
However, those musicians (except for Django) have all a strong classical background

I disagree with the other guy, Matt. Wal-Mart actually sells some good instruments. People always rag on Wal-Mart, but they sell some quality stuff. They sell good guitars, electric 6, bass, and acoustic. They sell saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and drums too. You can get a good guitar at WM for under $100. Try Costco too. They often sell Yamahas for under $150. Yamaha is a decent well known brand.

You can play jazz on an acoustic guitar. If you are a newbie, you will need to spend a lot of time learning. Jazz chords are tricky on a guitar. It's more than just G, C, and G7.

Yes, acoustics can play jazz. Some guitarists may hate me for saying this, but you can play jazz on any guitar, it's just that some guitars fit the 'jazz' sound a little better. But again you can play any style on any guitar.

I must say, 12 years old and you like jazz that's impressive, especially on top of playing 2 instruments already. It took me 2 years at music school with jazz being shoved down my throat before I really learned to love it. Now jazz is my favorite style to play and I listening to it, can't get enough of it.

Chances are you'll find better deals online if you search hard enough. Personally I would look for a used guitar online and you'll be able to find a much better guitar for $150.

Now for your first guitar, know that electrics are a lot easier to play on because it's not nearly as hard ro press down on the strings as an acoustic. Your fingers will hurt the first couple weeks you are playing. But if you start with an electric your fingers will get use to it quicker and the transition to playing an acoustic will be much easier because you are working your way up. The only problem there is you will probably want a little amp too, which is more money you need to spend.

Oh, and height shouldn't factor into what you buy at all, that's what straps are for.
