The Girl From Ipanema???

Hey everyone, i need an analysis for tomorrow on the girl from ipanema, for my music class, and was just wondering if anyone could give me an idea. i know its consonant, and it flows, but does anyone know what time it is? i'm doing the Stan Getz version. any help would be great!

Whoa! You're cool if you're doing Stan Getz version! It's usually 4/4 beat, standard. You can improvise & syncopate, though, vary it a bit before going back to the chorus. With what you got, I know you can do it well. Good luck!

Listening in my head, I believe it's standard 4/4, with a swing groove. Treetop is right. It's a Bossa-Nova, and is often notated as 2/2.
It does have some syncopated changes at the breaks... dropping some beats at the bridge. Very cool.

It's a classic bossa nova. See the wiki reference below.

I agree with all the above. Bossa Nova, 4/4 rhythm, it's a very calm and open song meaning it can be adapted to almost every modern instrument.

Bosa Nova, straight 4/4 rhythm, specially the stan getz version, was also notably recorded by Sergio mendez, and sascha distel. Classicly in this style, it starts in a major key, and the bridge modulates to a minor key,
actually a hard jazz tune to play properly, but lovely to hear
