What do you think of the "Cool Period" after listening to "Moonbeams" Miles Davis? Sorry "Moon dreams" "Cool" opened up new avenues for jazz to explore, and every great artist involved in cool was a pioneer in his own right. Cool made it acceptable to utilize orchestral instruments in jazz, and to use jazz in legit music-film -and broadway scores.
If Cool had not happened we certainly would not have experienced any sort of Fusion jazz and Miles' career would probably have died young.
the frustrating thing to me is that Bird did not live to see this era at all,....what kind of messed up stuff could he have done with this genre? That was a developmental period for Miles Davis and jazz in general, especially "cool jazz" as a genre...fortunately, Miles didnt stay in that space, but like everything else he ever did, he just expressed himself and did want he wanted to do. But listening to his "cool jazz" phase is sort of like looking at old black and white photos of Paris before world war 2....and afterwards........it's beautiful and we're glad we're not there anymore. |
