What guitar chords should I know if i'm going into high school jazz band?

i'm going into high school jazz band I ussually play lead and sometimes rhythm but, out of curiousity what chords should I learn?

Playing guitar in a jazz band is a lot of watching the chords go by..... Because there are a lot of them, sometimes changing 2-4 times in one measure!!

Definitely learn all 12 chords in major, minor, diminished, augmented, Major 7 and dominant 7, fully diminished 7, half diminished 7. Then you can add major and dominant 9 chords.

When reading chord charts, you have to be able to tell what the basic triad is - and then all the tertian extensions (9, 11, 13th etc).

But to begin with, get down the triads because you can always play a plain C chord when the chart says C11w/flat 9. then learn the major and dominant 7 versions of these chords.

every single chord imaginable. Jazz is VERY complex when it comes to guitar and there are alot of jazz chords that sound cool but takes time to memorize.
just practice all your chords and try to get them memorized

It depends are you playing base or regular? Acoustic or Electric. First learn the basics then move on to some difficult ones. I also suggest going to a few lessons and ask your teacher to give you a sheet of cords. There are millions and billions or cords out there so it's probably impossible to learn all of them! Go get yourself a chord book and sit down each day and try some new ones out. When you here something you like then you know to mark it and practice using it. Feel out some of the 5th 7th and 9th chords. Listen to some jazz and try to hear how they modify a chord. Sometimes just 1 note is all the difference in the world. It's like Phonics, just listen and try to sound it out. If it sounds good and feels good it's right.
