What are some good examples of jazz songs with that growling trumpet sound?

I'm not sure how to describe it. It's really prevalent in the song "Gambling Glottis" from the game "Grim Fandango" that can be heard here: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fus...

That's more of a 30's and 40's sound (great stuff)

Check out "Going to Chicago" by Count Basie

The works of Cab Calloway and Harry James should reveal good stuff too.

Wynton Marsalis is an excellent jazz trumpeter - and he has a very unique sound - similar to the one you describe

Hey! Have a listen to "minie the moocher" on the blues brothers film/ soundtrack its a cool trumpet solo with the growl sound.

Look for some Duke Ellington material with trumpter James "Bubber" Miley on it.
