Django Reinhardt - GUITARISTS!?

I have just discovered this amazing musician.

I prefer the earlier Gypsy jazz "Quintet du hot club de france" stuff.

Anyone have any links to his music or info?

Also, as a guitarist Id love to get some music of his - does anyone have any links to tabalature esp Swing 1939.

He is the greatest!

Thanks for the help

Agree with the Allmusic.com link, great place to start. Also you may like guitarist John Jorgenson. He has an great CD "Franco-American Swing" and he played Django in a movie. For Christmas there is a CD titled "Django Bells". It is the only Christmas album I own.

One of the pioneers in jazz guitar;one of the best and playing with only...3 fingers!

see wikipedia.org to see all about him.

Check out these sites for some of his music. They have quite a few of his early recordings. Red hot jazz also has a good biography.

This is a great website for music information. In my opinion, the reviews are accurate too.

PS-When you're ready for another musician who was very much inspired by DR, try Charlie Byrd. I'm pretty sure you'll like him too.

Did you know he only had two fingers on his left (fingering)hand? He was seriously burned in a fire. The guy may be the greatest guitarist of all time. I love that stuff. Steve Martin uses a lot of that in his movies. And if you havent seen the Woody Allen film "Sweet and Lowdown," check it out.

If you like Django, you may also like Bireli Lagrene's "Gipsy Project & Friends" CD. The first cut is titled "Djangology". He's incredible.

You are right, this guy influenced so many musicians. He took the rythm guitar and made it a solo instrument.
He was crippled and could only use 2 fingers of his left hand, stil, he developped a unique style for the time.
I have this cd that I purchased at Amazone.com entitled ''Souvenirs''.
The cd has 20 tracks, and was recorded originally with The Quintet of the Hot Club of France (with Stephane Grapelly).
The original sessions were recorded from 1938 to 1948.
As the title says, it's a beautiful ''Souvenirs''.
