Who was the first great jazz composer?

Who was the first great jazz composer?

I'd say Jelly Roll Morton. His claim to having invented jazz is almost true.

Jazz, like all music styles sort of evolved, to my memory the first would probably be the ragtime composers, Scott Joplin and the like, somewhere around the early 20's but that's an argument that's been going on almost as long!!
