Combining Jazz and Classical - any recommendations? |
I've heard that a number of musicians are combining Jazz and Classical. Can anyone recommend a CD? No singing, I just want the music. Claude Bolling anything by duke ellington Hi I don't know any CDs with that on there, but it seems to becoming more common to do. Jazz is basically classical music with style difference. It's noted for the style and the chords used, which come from classical. As mentioned, French pianist Claude Bolling. Check out Miles' "Sketches of Spain" - it has combined flemenco and classical elements. check out anything by The Modern Jazz Quartet, the last concert is a good one. Echoes is another good one. Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer have a fairly new CD out in which some tunes combine jazz and classical. They are both classically trained musicians, but Bela Fleck is more into jazz fusion with some bluegrass and classical thrown in for good measure. Edgar Meyer is probably the best classical upright bass player I've ever heard. Try Classical Jazz Quartet plays Rachmaninov, pianist Kenny Barron, vibest Stephon Harris, and bassist Ron Carter. Well, there are contemporary classical music recordings that combine jazz and classical. I have heard piano contemporary classical music and it sounded really cool. They have been doing that since the beginning of the 20th century. Composers did jazz and classical music side by side and elevated jazz to the spotlight that is respected to this day. George Gershwin is a perfect example. His "Rhapsody in Blue" and "American in Paris" are masterpieces. Miles Davis/Gil Evans "Sketches of Spain" and anything from The Modern Jazz Quartet are great suggestions. Check out the Danish band "Nowhereland" |
