What tempo was round midnight by thelonius monk composed in?

if you need to hear it and you're an expert on music, here it is on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMmeNsmQa...

I have the original version and it is played in 4/4.
Monk was very strange, at times, he used to dance around his piano while the others where soloing.
Great composer but dull piano player.

great song. dont know. You have to count how many beats are in a minute of that song(thats how you figure out the tempo) and that will give u the answer, I'm too lazy to do it. Sorry

If you mean time signature, it is in 4/4. Tempo-wise is on the ballad end of things, perhaps "adagio," if the Italian term (from classical music) is what you are looking for (although I doubt that's Monk would have called it).

not sure if Monk composed it with a standard tempo, but in my "Real Book", it's transcribed in 4/4. Monk was on a "higher" level than most of us humans, so its entirely possible that he had his own tempo.

You could play it as fast or as slow as you want. As for your question prolly somewhere around 80 on the metronome, its a ballad.

A tempo is the speed or velocity the song is played in. Do you mean, what key it was written in?
