I am in the Jazz Band at my school, the director placed me in the jazz band w/out an audition, which is usually required, so apparently he must think I'm somewhat good. I don't know how to do a 'fall' though. I am afraid to ask him. I have searched the 'net and asked my friends (Who aren't in Jazz band =P ) and have come up with nothing. Please help! There are a few ways to "fall". Usually if you see a squiggly line going diagonally down (more like a gliss) then you just quickly play down from the note you are on either chromatically or diatonically (the notes in the key you are in). Doing this should have a falling effect. The sign can also look like a curved line going diagonally down. first ask him he will understand.
but you take the note that the swoosh sign-thing is and basically go down a quick scale.
peace out, 2 way of doing this, 1 of which I'm not such you can do yet.
1. Bugle - Its a technique where you manipulate the back of mouth/throat to literately "voice down" a note. Doing this requires you to play either low Bb, B, or C. It can be done on any note, but its easier on the low end of the horn because the wave length of the pitch is much greater and easier to manipulate, also what your doing is essentialy cutting of the horn and turning it into a bugle. You can even play scales just using Bb, B, or C. This is difinitelly the harder way and will take time to practice and learn.
2. Ghosting - Just play a descending chromatic scale and fade out. |
