What emotion is mostly expressed in Swing Jazz?

Like, what emotion does swing jazz usually express? Happy, sad, andry, mixed emotions, etc.

Remember, 10 pts are on the line!

Generally speaking, the feeling of swinging jazz is "happy" just because of the way the music feels, dispite the fact that the lyrics may want to portray one theme or another like any other pop song (i.e. Love, Heartache, Breaking Up, or something random).

Swinging jazz gets people up on the dance floor, and most people are happy when they dance! For example, the Savoy Ballroom, where swing dancing originated in the late 20's out of the Charleston, was known as the "Home of Happy Feet".

From my experience, theatrically, the music style is best a portraying the following: joy, excitement, pure energy, love and sillyness.

When you start getting into music that portrays a sadder tone, then you've moved out of "swinging jazz" and into "Jazz and Blues".

Music examples:

First listen to "After You're Gone" (with lyrics), which is a song about someone getting over a breakup, and being happy the other person has left.

Then take a listen to "Traffic Jam" by Artie Shaw. It's supposed to be about the frustrations of being stuck in a traffic jam, but instead comes off as more pure energy (the song would be better titled "High Speed Chase").

Also, listen to "Diga Diga Doo", which is just a fun and energenic song about love. (lyrics: "...well you love me, and I love you, and your love is natural too, Diga Diga Doo, Diga Doo Doo...")

I hope that helps!

I would think it's called swing jazz because the emotions are constantly changing, swinging.

Swing music was big during the 40s, world war 2 when people were pretty upset and depressed and broke. so swing music picked up their spirits and made them forget their troubles and get happy.

I could get into all of the socio-political and socio-economic factors in the 40's, but all you need to know is Swing is about Fun and Dancing. It was the original rebellion music. Hep Cats would stay out all night and dance until they passed out. FUN is your word. Nowadays the majority of people playing straight ahead swing are the elderly so they're still having fun playing... just that their audience has diminished considerably.

Fun and remembrace with a little romance amd melencholy mixed in
