What is a jazz organ? |
What is a jazz organ? the B-3 Hammond organ is the most well known organ in jazz. Various artists have used them like Jimmy Smith, Johnny Hammond Smith, Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff. the B-3 is also used in rock. One of the most well-known rock artist who uses a B-3 is Jon Lord of Deep Purple fame. either a jazz musicians heart. Distorted r me is right, Hammond B-3 is THE jazz organ. Long live the B-3 .......... with 2 Leslie speakers! Jazz personified. The term "jazz organ" does NOT refer to a particular type of instrument. For example, a Hammond B3 organ can and does find it's way equally into church choirs and blues bands. So a Hammond B3 is NOT a "jazz organ". The term "jazz organ" refers to the STYLE the organist plays, not to the type of instrument he or she uses. In fact, with expanded technology for keyboards and workstations, a keyboardist can now create a Hammond B3 effect using a simple keyboard like a Roland and create the impression of a jazz organ, altho it wont ever compare with the depth and color of a Hammond. There's no specific jazz organ ... but a Hammond (especially the B3) are CLASSIC instruments. Usually the Hammond Sound, specifically the B-3 with Leslies. |
