What is a good usage of the whole/half diminished scale in jazz?

Is it basically good just over plain dominant chords? I heard it works well on a dominant that resolves to a minor chord?

Anything on the scale can work. It depends on what kind of instrument you play. Some instruments can work really good on the whole scale, some really good on the half diminished scale. It is good for runs over slippery tonality - where the tonic can be in a few different places.

Whole-half diminished works well over pretty much all diminished-seventh chords. You can also play it starting on the third of an altered dominant chord; (ex. C#dim7 on A7b9)
